Negri Sembilan is South of Selangor on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula. It was a federation of smaller states and absorbed Sungei Ujong in August 1895. Negri Sembilan joined the Federated Malay States in 1896, but continued to issue stamps until 1961. It became part of Malaysia in 1965, but stamps were issued inscribed Negri Sembilan from 1965 until 1986.

Occupation
Japanese occupation overprints were issued during WW2. The first set comprised handstamps in red, black, brown or violet, and from the example shown (from Grosvenor Auctions), it is clear that the colours were mixed on the same page.
