Perak is on the west coast of the Malay peninsular. A British Resident was appointed to Perak in 1874, although Gibbons [1] notes that he was later murdered. Perak joined the Federated Malay States in 1896 and Malaysia in 1963, although stamps continued to be issued for Perak from 1965 until 1986.
Overprints were issued during the Japanese occupation of WW2. The $1 Sc-N14 of the first set is shown.
