† Although Scott lists a run of nine stamps for the first issue, as with many of the immediately preceding countries exiting the USSR, Turkmenistan's first issue was a single stamp in April 1992, with the rest of the ‘set’ following in August.
Formerly a republic of the Soviet Union, Turkmenistan declared its independence in 1991.
