St. Vincent's first issue as a British colony was in May 1861. It became an associated state in 1969 and independent in 1979. In the independence set (Sc569-71), each stamp had a label attached.

St. Vincent Grenadines is a small group of islands including Bequia, Mustique, Mayreau, Canouan and Union Island. The issue of stamps was largely a money-making enterprise (starting with a royal wedding) rather than to fulfill a postal need. Worse still, many of the constituent islands also issued their own stamps in subsequent decades. Gibbons mentions some of the issues but does not number any of the stamps for the constituents.
