Tobago is a West Indies Island north of Trinidad. The first stamps used had been intended for fiscal purposes but were used postally while stocks were awaited. Buyers should therefore be wary of fiscally-used stamps being sold with forged postmarks. In 1899 Tobago joined with Trinidad and thereafter used the stamps of Trinidad or Trinidad and Tobago.
